Herdade Monte do Campo is a 120 hectare biodynamic farm located in Elvas, Portugal (20 km from Badajoz, Spain). It’s owned by Casallo Sociedade Agrícola Ltd. and run by Pablo Casallo Mantecon.

It has been certified Organic since 2009 and Demeter since June 2016 (Tadeu Caldas from Ecotropic Consulting GmbH is the Demeter advisor and commercial representative in Germany).

A beautiful, excellently managed mixed farm with rich soils on sloping fields and a range of field crops of vegetables and fruits as well as a herd of traditional Portuguese cows, fodder crops, biodiversity belts and beehives.

Biodiversity belts of alfalfa and mixed hedges of native trees and shrubs, planted along the boundaries of the farm, provide habitat for beneficial insects and birds, reaching the need of pest control.

Modern, mechanised composting operations deliver high quality humus to the soils, the heart of biodynamic production.

All biodynamic preparations are manufactured at the farm and used in regular applications to the soils, plants and compost.

The farm’s 120 hectares are fully irrigated by pivot irrigation and 60% of electricity needs covered by its own solar panels.

Demeter certifies food produced from biodynamic farming, a methodology created and defined by natural scientist and philosopher Rudolf Steiner in the 1920s.
